Tis the holiday season and all around us festivities have begun! But for many people, this time of year also brings a lot of stress and anxiety. I honestly don’t think enough people focus on themselves during the holidays, but rather on those around them, whether it’s family, friends, co-workers or all of the above. This year, I propose that instead of dedicating so much of your heart and soul toward others, you actually give yourself your own personal gift… a gift so important that we often neglect it… the gift of literally taking care of your own heart.
Here’s what you should do:
Consume a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids
Studies show strong evidence that omega-3 fatty acids from fish oil can lower blood pressure and triglyceride levels, and may lower the overall risk of death from heart disease. The American Heart Association recommends that healthy individuals consume fish a minimum of two times per week. The AHA also suggests supplementation by fish oil if you have coronary heart disease and are unable to consume enough fish by diet alone. Foods rich in omega3 fatty acids include tuna, salmon, sardines, flaxseed, soybeans, tofu, walnuts, and Skim Plus® Milk with Omega3 and CoQ10.
