To know me, is to know I dine out a lot. Ask any patient I’ve had over the years and they could probably recite this quote of mine by heart: “You can eat out 365 days a year and still maintain a healthy body weight!” YES – that is my mantra (well, at least one of many!). I believe that when dining out it all comes down to choices. What you eat might not always be ideal – but it can almost always have a better ending. For example, maybe you don’t finish everything on your plate, or you pass on the extravagant appetizer in order to savor the entree, or you just simply made a decision to say no to the breadbasket in order to make room for the wine. Not every meal in a restaurant needs to seem like a twelve course meal!! As always, it’s up to you and what YOU decide to do!
So keeping with that theme….in this weeks’ The Keri Report:

Diner Pick: Pancakes & Poached Eggs
YES – I eat pancakes. Gasp!!!! But here’s the thing. I’m smart about it. I always order a short stack. Sometimes it isn’t on the menu, so you need to ask for it. (Oh, and sometimes they will charge you the same $ even if you are ordering one less pancake. But hey, it’s your waistline and it’s worth the $). Then I opt for two nutrient rich poached eggs on top. With the eggs I no longer feel the need for butter and syrup which saves me a lot of extra calories.
Honestly I know this might not work for everyone. Take my hubby for example – he will order a short stack, he will order ONE egg, yet he will still uses butter and syrup. BUT (and here’s the best part) – he uses LESS butter and syrup. AND in my book, that most certainly counts!!! #smallchanges
The Healthiest Drinks You Can Order At The Bar
Once again I was interviewed for a story on cocktails. I don’t know – what does this mean??? 🙂 Anyhoo – I always find these stories to be quite useful (thank you Men’s Fitness) and that’s because too many people DRINK too many calories. The slightest tweak in you bar order can definitely make a difference, especially when weight loss is your goal.
P.S. Drink responsibly!
Here’s What 10 Dietitians Order at Italian Restaurants
Many of you might not know but I am a member of the Pasta Advisory Council for Barilla Pasta. (I know tough job, but someone has to do it!) SO, of course I LOVE pasta and order it whenever I can, especially at an Italian restaurant. Yet – when people first meet me they are a little shocked that I order, dare I say it, PASTA! I knew I must not be alone, so I asked my RD pals what they order for my latest US News blog. Read on for the dish (pun intended)!
