I cannot believe how the weather has been the last couple of days. February, really? It’s been a little more like the end of March when you feel that longer days are right around the corner. Hey, I’m not fooled by these warm temperatures, I know mother nature probably still has some snow in store for us. Ugh! However, just like I always tell my patients: “Don’t think about tomorrow (or yesterday), concentrate on today!” So yes, I will grab an iced coffee TODAY in honor of the warmer temps. (Typically only drink iced in spring and summer- I know not everyone is this way! ) AND I will remind my patients that just because they didn’t eat well yesterday and they aren’t sure how long they can keep with it, they can at least eat healthy TODAY!

Keri’s Kitchen: White Balsamic Vinegar
Confession time: For ages I have only used store bought salad dressing. I always thought that making my own salad dressing was just way to involved. Yes, I actually thought that. Anyhoo, I have kind of changed my tune. Say hello to white balsamic vinegar! My new kick is to simply pour a little of the vinegar directly on my salad along with some spritzes of olive oil (I put my oil in a spray bottle) and a little ground pepper. I then give my salad a little toss. It is so simple and yet so full of flavor. You can thank me later!
Calorie Restricton Could Help You Live Longer. Should You Actually Try It?
Love when a study comes out, in mice no less, and the media headlines are not exactly accurate. Thanks to Food & Wine Magazine for interviewing me on this on. Calorie restriction? I think for starters we should get people to simply stop overeating? Love what I read in the conclusion of the study: “Despite this study’s observed connection between consuming fewer calories and improved lifespan, Price assured that people shouldn’t start counting calories and expect to stay forever young. Calorie restriction has not been tested in humans as an anti-aging strategy, and the essential message is understanding the importance of taking care of our bodies.” I think Dr. Price and I could be friends!
What Nutritionists Feed Their Pets
Being given the opportunity to talk about what I feed Henry – priceless! Can’t believe I didn’t come up with this fun article idea by my RD colleague Toby Amidor on Food Network. Henry of course, loved reading about what other dogs are fed. He is now asking for a book about it; wants to make sure he isn’t missing out on anything. Ha!
