My family visited this past weekend and as you can imagine when you get a group of siblings together with their spouses and our mother heated discussions can ensue. In many families a common topic of banter is politics, but oddly enough with this upcoming election we mostly agree. What we don’t agree on is nutrition. Mind you, I am the nutrition professional in the family, so you would think my opinion would count for something. Nope! It seems the internet is a much preferred resource, even if unaccompanied by any scientific research. Moral of the story: Don’t invite family for the weekend :))))

Keri’s Kitchen: Grilled Branzino

As I have mentioned in previous newsletters, this summer I have been experimenting with a lot of new dishes, especially ones I can throw on the grill. My latest favorite is branzino, also known as sea bass. I buy them whole fish per person (not filleted), ask them to “clean” the fish, but still keep the head and tail on.

Instructions:
1. Heat clean grill to medium high.
2. Put fresh rosemary and sliced lemon inside fish.
3. Rub olive oil on outside of fish (both sides), then salt & pepper.
4. Place on grill and cook for 5 minutes per side.
5. Serve whole with side of lemon. OR you can fillet each piece before serving if you have individuals who hate the look of a whole fish!

6 Surprising Foods Olympian Eat

Well, the Olympics are over and I have to admit I really enjoyed them. But there was ONE thing that drove me crazy and that was the amount of articles in the news about “how to eat like an Olympian”. Is it just me, OR do others agree that sitting on your couch watching the Olympics is not the same as engaging in them? AND unless you are training at their level you should not be eating like them. Read my most recent post on US News to see some of the surprising foods they eat.

5 Easy Tips for Picking the Healthiest Snack on Every Flight

One of the most popular questions I get from my patients is: “What should I eat on a plane”. Typically I tell them to pack their own snack; such as, a serving of nuts, roasted edamame or chick peas, fresh fruit, or a granola type bar. BUT honestly, I hardly ever do it myself. Read my interview on The Points Guy to find out my go-to plane snack and other suggestions for making your flight just a tad healthier.
