I have a confession to make – I don’t eat enough whole fruit! GASP! And I’m not talking about 3 servings/day – I am talking about NO fruit. DOUBLE GASP!  You see, I am a spring/summer fruit lover; cherries, peaches, plums, apricots, berries – can’t get enough of them!  And it’s not that I don’t like apples and citrus (actually love oranges and grapefruits), I just seem to skimp on them during the winter months. And yes, I know I can eat berries in the winter, I tell my patients that all the time, but they just don’t taste as good!  Probably could also whip together a smoothie and get all my fruit servings for the day. But nah, never been a HUGE smoothie person. But never mind all of that, starting TODAY I will try for at least a minimum of 2 servings per day. NO excuses. I suggest you do the same!

Keri’s Kitchen: Smoked Salmon Sandwich

If you are looking for a healthier version of “bagels and lox” I got you covered. Hey, if you know me by now, you know I am a huge bagel lover (scooped of course!). And I really do love a whole wheat bagel with tofu cream cheese and smoked salmon. BUT there are days when I like this version even better!

Here’s what I do:

  1. Toast 2 slices of 100% whole grain bread. Featured here is Ezekiel 4:9 bread.
  2. About a heaping TBSP of hummus on each slice.
  3. A quarter of an avocado divided between the 2 slices.
  4. One slice of smoked salmon on each slice.
  5. Topped with red onion, ground pepper and tomato (not in pic).

P.S. I always prefer to eat my sandwich open faced because it takes longer to eat and therefore keeps me fuller!

Why You Don’t Really Need To “Detox” Like Bella Hadid Allure Magazine

If there’s one word that drives me crazy it’s “detox”. And what makes matters worse is when a celebrity is quoted that it really works for them. “When I eat badly for a while, I need to do a Monday-Wednesday cleanse to be able to flush everything out and detox.” OYYY!  So glad to be able to give my two cents for this article; someone needs to be the voice of reason.

Allure Magazine was definitely on a roll last week. “Salt depletion” as a diet? You can’t make this stuff up! Honestly, if it wasn’t for all this craziness I probably wouldn’t have a job. So thank you David Gandy, model for Dolce & Gabbana, for being off your rocker!
