Just got back from a business trip in Vienna. I know – tough job!!! Anyway, every time I travel I kind of have the motto “When in Rome…..”. So guess what, I had my share of weiner schnitzel, goulash, boiled beef and beef soup. And happy to report, it was not my favorite fare! How I longed for a lentil soup, large mixed green salad and linguini primavera. Luckily the hotel breakfast was superb and I was able to start my day with avocado toast with a poached egg on top. Love how certain healthy dishes are now universal. Well, at least in a Ritz Carlton they are.
What I am not happy to report is that my stomach was not in love with the food. I was constipated for almost the entire 6 days. TMI??! Many of my colleagues were swearing by their high fiber cereals they brought with them and encouraging me to eat prunes. I didn’t listen, instead I suffered. I drank plenty of water, but that didn’t help. I know what I experienced is not uncommon, but I would think as an registered dietitian I would of been better at helping myself. Kept thinking if I only rolled out a yoga mat and got myself moving. But no, didn’t do that either.
All I can say is that it’s a good thing I don’t travel out of the country often. But if I did, I would most likely make some changes to my routine. Would I still eat new foods? You betcha! Would I find a way to exercise? Yes! Would I bring some kind of high fiber cereal with me? Most likely. Would I start eating prunes? Ask me next time.

Keri’s Kitchen: Health Salad
The other day I got to attend an intimate event hosted by Panera Bread where I got to hear all about the healthy innovations they are planning for the new year. At the end of the event we (me and 4 other registered dietitians) got to create our own salad choosing from a slew of amazing ingredients. My creation was rather simple and could easily be recreated in anyone’s home.
Here’s what I included: romaine lettuce, cucumbers, @ 1/4 cup of roasted corn, a slice of red onion, 3 tomato wedges, @ heaping TBSP of feta cheese, 1/4 of an avocado, hard boiled egg and roasted slivered almonds sprinkled on top.
My dressing was their yummy Green Goddess – but this salad would be just as delicious with a little olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon.
6 Health Resolutions That Are Sure To Backfire
If you’ve been following me on social media or subscribing to The Keri Report for awhile now it will not come as a surprise that I am not a fan of New Year’s resolutions. My latest blog for US News actually pin points the six resolutions that I have the biggest problem with. Read on and see if any of these are ones you actually committed to (or do I really mean struggling with?!).
5 Health and Fitness Experts on the One Thing You Can Do Now to Reverse Your Winter BOD
The ONE thing? Not so sure about this headline, BUT I am sure of one thing that can most likely help – drink more water! I don’t know about you, but most people I know drink less water when the temp outside is close to freezing. The other experts interviewed by Marie Claire for this story also have some good ideas – so you might just want to check it out.
