Celebrity Nutritionist Keri Gans is a big believer in small changes to reach weight loss goals. “We all know we can’t lose twenty pounds by Saturday, but that doesn’t stop us from becoming frustrated when the latest fad or crash diet fails,” she says. The key to long-lasting weight loss? In her book, The Small Change Diet, Keri focuses on ten small changes that work.

We talked to Keri about small changes, the truth about carbs and her current role as a spokesperson for Thomas’ Bagel Thins.

GLOSS: You’re a big promoter of small changes to make a big difference when it comes to eating right and getting fit. What are you top 3 small changes for busy women?

So hard for me to choose; it is like asking a mom to choose her favorite child. All ten changes that I recommend in my book are very important. However, I do stress that the place to begin to make healthy changes starts with creating a healthy eating schedule. Without some structure to your day it is hard to stay on course.

GLOSS: So carbs aren’t the enemy? I have to say, a low-carb lifestyle has been successful for me in losing almost 20 pounds since the new year –but I know it’s not the best plan for me to completely eliminate carbs. What are the best choices if you’re trying to lose weight?

Exactly !!! so not the enemy J I think most people need to rethink how they look at carbs and realize just like most things they come in different shapes and sizes. Sure you should limit the simple carbs like candy, cakes, soda, and cookies but to eliminate carbs that are high in fiber, like 100% whole grains (barley, buckwheat, quinoa, brown rice, whole wheat bread, whole wheat pasta), fruits and veggies would be a mistake. Carbs are the main source of energy for our bodies and need them to run efficiently. Sure you lost weight by eliminating them, but to eliminate a total food group is not something one can sustain or benefit from. Watching portion sizes with carbs are important, not avoiding them. There are so many products that do this for you actually – Thomas’ makes the Bagel Thins™bagels so you can enjoy your favorite foods, just slimmed down a little.
