In two days the holiday season will begin. Every year I swear I say the same thing: “How did this happen so quickly?” Wasn’t I just complaining that summer was officially over? Is is just me or are all stores now decorating with Christmas things immediately after Halloween – a little early, no? In any event I guess I feel a little obligated to give my usual holiday spiel.

The holidays are basically three DAYS not six weeks: Thanksgiving, Christmas (and Hanukkah) and New Years! There is absolutely NO reason to gain weight. Simply enjoy the days, your friends and/or family, and welcome in the New Year with the healthiest version of YOU!

Keri’s Kitchen: Roasted Brussels Sprouts

This recipe is back by popular demand. (I think I posted it last year at this time of year.) The funny thing though is I will not be making it for my Thanksgiving dinner this year. As much as I hate to admit this, I am the ONLY person at my holiday dinner this year who likes brussels sprouts! So, so sad!

Ingredients:
About 2 plus cups of brussels, ends cut off, outer leaves removed. (If large in size than I cut them in half)
2 TBSP extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves of chopped garlic
1 TBSP balsamic vinegar
salt & pepper

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place all ingredients into a bowl with tight lid (or a strong sealable plastic bag) – shake till oil covers all the brussels. Next pour brussels in an even layer onto roasting pan. Place in oven, shake pan every 5-7 minutes, until brussels are brown on the outside and easily pierced with fork. Time will vary depending on size of brussels – but should be @ 30 minutes. When done – place in bowl and toss gently with balsamic vinegar before serving.

Enjoy! At least someone will get to – ha!

A Healthier Approach To ThanksgivingMy Fitness Blog

“It’s only one meal. So you overeat? Big deal. You shouldn’t feel guilty,” says me. Yep, that basically explains how I feel about Thanksgiving dinner or any holiday meal for that matter. However, I will admit there are delicious ways to make your meal healthier is you are so inclined. In my opinion, it’s what you do the following day that matters most. In other words – no repeat performances please!
