Spring is a time for renewal. Out with the old, in with the new! First thing I do, is go through my closet – winter clothes to the back, spring and summer to the front! Hey, I need to make room for new stuff, right??? It is also a time that I encourage my patients to take stock of their kitchen. Whatever “comfort” foods they were coveting during the winter months  – get them out of the house! Make room for all those delicious fruits and veggies hitting the farmer’s stands and start thinking about how you are going to nourish your body in a healthy way. You might of been a little dormant in the winter, but those days are now behind you! NOW is the time to put a spring in your step!

Keri’s Kitchen: Yogurt Parfait

A couple of weeks ago I partnered with Kellogg’s for an event in NYC that centered on ways to think about breakfast other than in a morning bowl of cereal. Throughout the event we tasted lots of food that used cereal as an ingredient in rather unexpected ways. At the end of the event we got to make our own “dessert”. With a slew of choices for toppings we were left to our own devices. I will admit mine might appear rather boring – only chose 3 ingredients. BUT, it was nothing close to boring and it definitely got me thinking!

With the warm weather coming a yogurt parfait could be a perfect breakfast, snack or dessert! Here are some examples:

Breakfast: 1 cup of low-fat plain yogurt, 1 cup berries, 2 TBSP nuts, 1 cup high fiber/low sugar cereal, 1 TBSP chia seeds
(Breakfast will have the most ingredients because hey, it’s a meal NOT a snack! )

Snack: 1 cup low-fat plain yogurt, 1 cup berries, drizzle of honey

Dessert: 1/2 cup low-fat plain yogurt, 1/2 cup high fiber/low sugar cereal (or honestly mine had Rice Krispies and it was really good!), drizzle of chocolate sauce

All Calories Are Not Created Equal – Here’s Why

A 100-calorie bag of M&Ms versus a 100-calorie bag of almonds – which should you choose? OK, maybe I should rephrase that – which do you think you should choose?  Why yes, the almonds of course!!!!  Here’s the thing, at the end of the day calories do matter most of all, but what you actually consume to get to that correct calorie amount for your body is the crux of it all. Read my interview with Vitamin Shoppe to find out more!

49 Healthy Snacks To Satisfy Every Craving

49? WOW!! Another reason you don’t really need to eat those M&Ms I mentioned above. Ha! Honestly though – sometimes nothing like the real thing will do the trick. I get that.  But in the meanwhile check out all the great ideas from me and others in this Reader’s Digest story. You might just be surprised!

Disclosure: I am in partnership with Mini Babybel and Thrive – but would of recommended these snacks 100% for sure even if I wasn’t.
