I don’t know about you, but some mornings all I want to do is stay in my pj’s and drink coffee. OK, some mornings? Who am I kidding!!! Anyway, sound familiar? Many of you have to drag your butt out of bed and get to work early and you hit the gym(or whatever your fitness is) later. But some of you do try to hit the gym first. For me, it’s dragging myself out of bed and getting to yoga. And the funny thing is – I love yoga!! But some days it is just so damn hard to get there. What I do, is remind myself that my body will thank me. One of my favorites quotes is: “The human body is a terrible thing to waste”. This quote might not do it for you, so come up with something that does. Get out, get moving, and I promise you this: your body will thank you!

You Ask, I Answer: Should I take a multi-vitamin?

YES. However, there has been a lot of scientific research on this topic and at this moment in time there has been conflicting results. Some researchers say yes, others say no. But here’s the thing, I am a firm believer in the do no harm theory. And a multi-vitamin will not cause harm (if taken as instructed). If anything it could help fill in nutrient gaps within your diet. I have attended numerous conferences where research will support that many Americans most definitely fall short in certain nutrients that are important for our overall health.

But please note: a supplement is suppose to “supplement” your diet, not replace food. I will always suggest food first! For me personally, I think of a multi-vitamin as a safety-net. And I’d rather be safe than sorry.

P.S. If taking ANY supplements please make sure to advise your doctors, especially if you are on prescribed medications.

11 Delicious Spices That Make It Easy to Hold the Salt

I have a confession to make – with in the last year I have started to use a little salt in my cooking! Growing up my mother never used salt, hence I grew up without a desire for it in my food. Thank you, Mom! But over the years I have attended many cooking events where the chefs always used a little salt here and there, and it finally rubbed off on me. (Ha! No pun intended.) However, there is a big difference between with a little and a lot. And there is also a big difference between ONLY using salt and avoiding other amazing spices. Thanks to my friend and colleague, Cynthia Sass, for this RD roundup piece, including me, for Livestrong.com on some really great cooking ideas with spices!

BTW, just to be clear, I never use the salt shaker at the table :)))))

Can Eating Six Small Meals Per Day Really Help You Lose Weight?

Some swear by it, others not so much. Professionally I have seen it work, but also have seen it fail. The important thing is to really know what a “small” meal looks like. Any ideas? OK, I’ll give you a hint: it doesn’t look the same as a typical dinner entree from a restaurant like Outback. Any other thoughts? :)))  Check out my interview with Women’s Health for what could possibly work if you are so inclined to try it.
