The weather this week has been crazy. One minute it was almost 90 degrees and then it was in the low 60’s. It kind of makes you feel that nothing that you know to be true, is true. Shouldn’t we be able to count on weather in the high 70’s and 80’s in the summer? Maybe not. At least not in the hamptons! I almost feel this can be the same in our food world. Sometimes what we think to be a fact, isn’t at all a fact. Eat pasta, gain weight? Hmmmm, NOT necessarily! So in today’s The Keri Report, I am sharing 2 articles I am quoted in with you to help you look at things (foods) differently. And the biggest shocker this week- take your hubby with you to a health event and find a product of the week that you BOTH agree on!!!

In this report you will find:
* Product Pick of the Week: LifeIce
* Is Pasta The New Diet Food?
* The #1 Smoothie Trick That Keeps You Full Longer

Product Pick of the Week: LifeIce

In Southampton this past weekend they had an event called the “Healthy Guru” and of course I thought it apropos that I check it out. To be honest the event was rather small and not that exciting. (Though my favorite yoga/fitness retailer JuJa Active was there!) But little did I know that I would literally have to pull my husband away from a booth for a product that he just had to have. A healthy food product that is! And so I got introduced to LifeIce. What is it? This is how a press release describes it:

“Ditch the stick” with LifeIce, the popsicle reinvented as the first snackable and guilt-free Cubettes. Sold room temperture, in convenient freeze-at-home trays, LifeIce offers health conscious consumers (and their kids) a refreshing, hydrating & portion-controlled summertime snack. LifeIce is not only all natural, fat free, low in calories and low in sugars, but is also gluten-free, Kosher-certified, non-GMO, vegan and diabetic-friendly – making it easier than ever to snack smarter during these warmer months. Just Freeze. Pop. Enjoy.”

What I personally love about this product is the many different ways it can be enjoyed. They can be used to flavor seltzer, thrown in to a smoothie, cool ice for a cocktail or simply snacked on. AND that it was created with the help of a registered dietitian makes my heart sing.
Nutrition facts in one serving, 24 cubettes, varies according to flavor:
@20-35 calories
@5-8 grams sugar

Is Pasta The New Diet Food?

Every time I hear someone say pasta is fattening I just cringe. Guess what – so can a salad if you load it with lots of meat and cheese! It is no surprise to me that pasta can be part of a well-balanced diet; I wouldn’t be part of Barilla’s Pasta Advisory Council if I didn’t. But getting people to believe that a food they love to eat can be good for them is a whole other challenge. Thanks to Shape.com for featuring this study in their article and for asking me for my two cents.

The Thicker Your Smoothie, The More Fullness You’ll Feel, Study Suggest

I can’t seem to get away from smoothies this summer! Maybe the universe is telling me something! Anyhoo – I do believe that not all smoothies are created equal. When you read this article by Health.com, please note the SMALL sample size used in the study. However, a feeling of fullness post smoothie drinking – in my opinion, is only a positive result.
